Weekly report for week ending 7th March 2010 by Steve Woods

What a difference a week makes, the sun is shining and all is well with the world! Lots of good news to report including the progress down at Wicor with the clubhouse and stand.

Seniors

First Team

Tuesday Evening

Portchy 1               US 0

This game was the start of a very tricky run building towards the final run in. The pitch was still damp and not the most smooth of playing surfaces, this inevitably led to a very scrappy match. In the early exchanges we came close with a couple of half chances, but it was the debutant Sam Latter from the youth team who had to maintain the equilibrium by pulling off a fine full length save after 20 minutes. However it we us who kept trying to play football and a few minutes later a lovely ball from Jay Ripiner put Brad Stokes free , who kindly obliged with a rare goal.

The second half continues in the same vein, with the back line looking particularly secure despite missing regulars Turrell and James, another new signing James Hird looking particularly comfortable at left back.

There were no real scares late on in the game and this win keeps us in contention, sitting in 4th place.

Saturday

Portchy 1               Fawley 1

Saturday saw the visit of run away league leaders Fawley.Portchy put in a very solid performance once again and indeed throughout the game we always looked the most dangerous. Early chances fell to Simon Woods and Zach Macgregor both going begging! Mid way through the first half a well placed corner from Lee Bedden found Nev Farley’s head which in turn saw the ball nestle in the Fawley net, it was one nil and we fully deserved it. It was fairly shortlived however and Fawley were back level after 40 minutes.

We kept going in the second half again making more chances, but unfortunately failed to score again. At the start of the game we would probably settled for a draw, but on performance a win would have been the more acceptable result. We are still in the hunt on move off to Horndean to continue our quest.

The reserves travelled to Aldermaston after trailing 2 -0 at half time saw us fight back, running out 3.2 winners

The youth team travelled to Romsey with a depleted squad, but did manage to grind out a battling 1.0 win.

Luke Linter scoring from close range after battling to win the ball. The win keeps the youth team on top of the league with a great chance of promotion.

The PYFL team managed two 1 all draws  against the mighty 9 man Meon Milton!
