Weekly report for week ending 22nd Feb 2010 by Steve Woods The rains keep a falling and the games keep a falling too! Yes, another weekend decimated by the rain! Seniors First Team Andover New Street 2 AFC Portchester 3 After a long arduous journey to the outback of Andover, the incorrect address on their web site didn’t help we finally arrived at what can only be described as a boogy New Street pitch! Another week without Turrell and Nev Farley and another week with a makeshift defence meant that this was going to be far from and easy match. We started strongly and quickly went ahead from Lee Bedden free kick which seemed to avoid everyone and found the back of the net. New Street battled on making it hard for us to play and did seem stronger physically than we were. However we continued to try to play and before long a slick move was finished by Zach Macgregor for us to go two up. However we always seemed vulnerable to the long ball and a punt up the wing, a missed header, and a quick forward led us to conceding just before half time. The game continued in the same vein after the break and again another good move left Simon Woods one on one on the keeper and after taking it round him he cooly slotted home. Three one to Portchy! Despite New Street going down to 10 men we then performed our usual trick of dropping to the edge of our box defending a lead, which just as inevitably, led to us conceding a second and giving Glen a twitchy last 10 minutes. We move up to 5th with games in hand, March will be make or break for us. We need some of our sick list back! Reserves Blackfield and Langley 0 AFC portchester 3 Ressies go 7th! We had to delay the start due to frosty conditions but managed to kick off around 20 minutes late. Ending the first half 2-0 up and playing some good football, we went out for the second half in a much more attacking mood, finishing the game 8-1 winners. The Portchester goal scorers were Reece Tuppen with 3, Laith Al-Baghdadi scoring his first two goals of the season, Scott Mckenzie, Alfie Green and Matt Clements all scoring one apiece. This now leaves us 9 points clear at the top of the league although we have played more games than the two chasing teams. Man of the match was the captain Matthew Denford. U16B Sat away to Bridgemary, AFC Portchester had James Milner to thanks for going in goal as the teams regular keeper was away. AFC Portchester took a 1-0 lead into the second half thanks to Brad Smith. In the second half AFC Portchester had a number of great chances to extend the lead and did eventually go 2-0 up through Sam Gisborne. However it all went wrong in injury time as Bridgemary scored 2 goals to draw the match.Fixtures SATURDAY | Team | Home/Away | Opposition | K/O | | U10 | Away | Gosport Borough | 1030 | | U11A | No Game | | | | U11B | No Game | | | | U12 | No game | | | | U15 | Home | Whiteley Wanderers | 10:30 | | U16A | No Game | | | | U16B | No Game | | |
