Weekly Report for w/e 24/01/10 by Steve Woods Men Football’s back!! At long last we managed to get a few games in this week, although far from a full fixture list, it looks like we achieved a 100% record from the teams that did play!! With planning permission now granted and other good news on the ground development front (watch this space!) it was a good weekend for the club. 1st team 2: Andover New Street 1. At long last the first team had the chance to exorcise the defeat at Downton before Christmas. After a lot of hard work by club stalwarts over the weekend we managed to get The Cage pitch into a playable condition. Both teams had experienced long layoffs and to be fair it showed! In a ragged first half where we had the bulk of the chances and what appeared to be a good penalty shout turned down, the only real good moment was when Simon Woods netted from short range giving us a 1:0 lead going into half time. Kicking up hill the game continued in the same vein and we continued to make chances with Simon Woods completing his brace to score our second. Keen to rest players for the upcoming flurry of important games Glen decided to swap Woods, Howe, and Stokes for Ogilvie, Ripinier, and Stacey. Further chances came, but a misunderstanding at the back gifted New Street a goal making the last few minutes more nervy than they should have been. In fact had it not been for a crucial last minute block by Phil Turrell we would have lost 2 points! Tadley 3: 1st Team 4. On Saturday we travelled to Tadley to play a team that had already taken 2 points from us. The first half was as good as we had played all season, goals from Simon Woods, Zach Macgregor, and Nick Howe saw us gong in at half time 3 up with the general concensus being that it could easily have been 6 or 7. The second half saw us scoring a 4th through Zach Macgregor and we were coasting thinking of the top of the table clash against Fawley on Wednesday!. Inevitably this was the signal for Tadley to come blazing back. Two goals in 10 minutes including a hotly disputed penalty (aren’t they all!!) once again gave us the last 10 minute jitters. A third was conceded from a set piece in what proved to be the last action of the match. The reserves match was postponed as was the Under 18 (PYFL). The Under 18 (HCYL) won 2:0 at Winchester Castle. Wednesday 1st team away to Fawley ko 7:45 Saturday 1st team home to Fleet Spurs ko 3pm Reserves away Blackfield and Langley Sunday Men away to IBM South Hants (Cup) Under 18 HYL Home to Colden Common Under 18 PYFL Home to Pickwick (Cup) Youth. The under 12 sat team played Whiteley Wanderers B at Portchy School on a very damp pitch.Obviously a great game from our perspective, 10 - 0 win. Our scorers were Reece Tuppen 5, Alfie Green 1, Scott Mckenzie 2, Charlie Rice 1, Matthew Denford 1.This result keeps us in top spot but having played 3 games more than Dynamo in 2nd place. On Sunday in the Under 12 B Division there was a Double Header Match AFC Portchester A 1 (Mark Prince) vs Gosport Borough A 0 AFC Portchester A 2 (Mark Prince, Liam Bush) vs Gosport Borough A 1 The Under 12 A team took on Gosport Borough A today in what was going to be on paper a reasonably easy game easier game with Gosport being at the base of the league, however it proved to be a tough challenge with both sides having plenty of opportunities. It was however a great goal by Mark Prince early in the first half that stood till the end of the game and giving us a 1-0 win in the first of our double header. After a short break the lads started the second game and again took the lead with a confident tap in from Mark Prince after the goalie spilled a great shot by Charlie Rice. Gosport bounced back with a well taken header leaving our keeper Rhys no chance. Half way through the second half though our debut signing Liam took the ball on the edge of the area, turned to get the ball on to his favoured left foot and struck a peach of a ball straight into the top right hand corner. Some very tired legs on both teams started to show but the lads hung on for the second win 2-1. The double win dependent upon the league leaders result, will take us to the top of the table or to second place one point behind them if they win. Well done lads, battled hard and did yourselves proud. The Under 13 b team played Pickwick C today, they were 4-1 up at half time and ended up winning 7-4 with Tobias Wallis having another great game and scoring 3 goals. Other scorers were Ellis Wooley-Meads with 2 goals, Jack Cane with 1 goal and Will Ford with 1 goal.
